Its been about a month since I've last shared my thoughts, but life has simply been crazy ever since preseason and school both started back up. To recap the end of preseason: The team had some well deserved days off following two good scrimmages. The first scrimmage was a 1-0 victory over a travel/club team. The next day we had to find strength and energy to battle against cross town rival Lipscomb University. Now Lipscomb is a NCAA Division 1 program, that being said, the odds of us winning were very slim. Well as it turned out it took a fluke goal in order for them to beat us. The game was very close as our defense played extremely well only until the ref collided with one of our players allowing the Bison player to have a clear scoring chance. So we ended up losing 1-0 however the team was pretty proud of our performance and fight.
And then the real fun began.....
So far we have played 4 games in the past two weeks. The team is looking good with a 2-1-1 record with our only lose coming from the #10 team in the country. We had a double Overtime victory to start off the season and a 5-1 smashing this past weekend. I am very impressed with how the team has improved over the years and especially last season itself. It seems as if this season has the potential of being the best season Trevecca has ever had. Many of you may know but if you dont, TNU has recently gone NCAA Div 2. But before we are accepted fully we must go through a two/three year "probation" period. So while we wait to compete in the NCAA we are competing in the NCCAA which is basically all the christian universities. That being said, Our soccer team recently found out that we were receiving votes to be in the top 25 teams in the country! No former Trevecca soccer program has ever done that, and what a great opportunity we have to become the first team in Trevecca soccer history with a national ranking!
Words can't describe the excitement that i feel once games begin, because its one game closer to making history. One game closer to that All Time Record. One game closer to my dream. I pray that God uses me when I'm out on the field. I understand that I am gifted in athletics, and so I thank God every night for blessing me with the talents and abilities. I also know that at any given time that God can end or take away what he has blessed me with. This season could be my last. This next game could be my last... so why not be thankful for your gifts and use that as motivation to play your heart out because you never know when things will change. I have a friend who got the opportunity to play soccer in college. Unfortunately, he found out 2/3 games into the season that he can't play anymore due to previous injuries. He had to make the choice of either playing the game he loved or walking in ten years. Now reminder that he wasn't hurt at the time. It all happened INSTANTLY. It kills me to hear him say things like "What I would do for one more game." or "I just wanna play again." So I thank God just for the privilege of playing. The gift of sport. The gift of opportunity after college. All these things are just blessings, and so I play every game like its my last. I want to play in a way that's pleasing to God because I know God loves watching his children use their gifts.
Today is game day, we play tonight at 7 o'clock here at Trevecca. I hope the people who come out enjoy watching us play. I thank our fans SO much for just showing up! I encourage you to come watch a game and not only that but to be LOUD! get into it. I promise its a lot of fun making fun of the other team (in a good christian manner!), or just chanting at our players. I absolutely love hearing students and fans cheering and calling out our players by name. I just encourage everyone to come talk to us. Give us feedback or ask us questions, I promise we are a approachable group of men. Hope to see everyone out at the pitch (field) this year!
